The Safety Investigation Authority of Finland has decided after a preliminary examination to initiate a safety investigation into the collision with edge mark off Oulu of the Dutch flagged M/S BARENTSZDIEP on 10 January, 2012.

The SIA expert captain Juha Sjölund was appointed as a team leader of the investigation group and expert Rainer Dahlblom as a member of the investigation group. Chief Marine safety investigator Martti Heikkilä will act as investigator-in-charge for the case.
