The Accident Investigation Board of Finland has decided after a preliminary investigation to initiate an investigation into the grounding of cargo vessel MS TRADER in Varkaus on 4 September 2011 and in Sulkava on 16 September 2011.

M.Sc.(Tech) Ville Grönvall was appointed as investigator-in-charge for the case and Master Mariner Toimi Sivuranta and Maritime Safety Investigator, Master Mariner Risto Repo were appointed as investigators.
