L2025-03 Collision of airliner with mobile boarding stairs at Helsinki-Vantaa airport

Pursuant to section 2 subsection 2 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011), the Safety Investigation Authority, Finland (SIAF) initiates an investigation into a serious incident that occurred on August 28, 2025, when a Boeing 787-900 airplane impacted parked mobile boarding stairs during taxiing-in. The left wing of the airplane and the boarding stairs sustained damage. The investigation will focus on the arrangements and procedures of ground handling services.

The appointed investigation team leader will be subject matter expert Jan Holmberg. The team members will be subject matter expert Kristian Rintala and senior special investigator Mikko Tikkanen. The investigator-in-charge will be Chief Air Safety Investigator Janne Kotiranta.
