From the standpoint of safety investigation, the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) recording is a valuable and essential instrument in investigating flight crew action and crew cooperation related to accidents and incidents. If the flight lasts longer than the CVR's recording capacity, the CVR recording from the early phase of the flight is over-recorded; cf. 1.16.8.
Recommendation
It is recommended that EASA and ICAO sufficiently lengthen the time recording requirement of CVRs so as to cover the entire routing of the flight.
