Regulate and require flight instructors to enter comments into a student pilot’s training records after each flight

Flight instructors record the events on training flight into student pilots’ training records in an extremely varying manner. In order to monitor and standardise instruction, to benefit the student’s own progress and to in-form other instructors, it would be judicious to require that, at the least, comments on the completion of the most demanding topics be entered into the student’s training records. The records should condense the oral feedback given to the student pilot. Especially in the early stages of training such records are meaningful, and the so-called “perfect” performance in the air should also be articulated with an appropriate expression.

Safety Investigation Authority Finland recommends that the Finnish Transport Safety Agency regulate and require flight instructors to enter comments into a student pilot’s training records after each flight so as to make it possible for the student, other instructors and the rest of the training organisation to monitor progress in learning and instruction.
