Automatic activation of the ATP engine device

The ATP system has been designed to secure rail traffic, so the engine device should always be switched on while the train is moving. The system would be switched off only in special cases.

The ATP engine device must always be switched on.

The ATP engine device may be switched off only during maintenance or by a special permission of the traffic controller, when the device has broken. According to the regulations the ATP (or ERTMS) engine device has to be installed to the rolling stock used in railway traffic. The requirement does not concider rolling stock used in museum train traffic nor maintenance machines which are temporarily used and registered outside Finland.
