The Safety Investigation Authority, Finland initiates an investigation under the second subsection of section 2 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011) into an accident in aviation that occurred on 4 June 2026. An aircraft of the Piper Cherokee (PA-28-180) type, used for recreational aviation, crashed into a nearby forest at Kannonkoski private airfield after take-off. The pilot sustained fatal injuries, and the plane was destroyed beyond repair.
The investigation will focus in particular on airfield operating procedures, human factors and aircraft performance.
Expert Olli Borg is appointed as the head of the investigation team, and expert Mikko Raatikainen, expert Alpo Vuorio and senior investigator Mikko Tikkanen are appointed as members. Chief Air Safety Investigator Janne Kotiranta serves as the Investigator-in-Charge.
