The Accident Investigation Authority, Finland launches a safety investigation into an explosion that occurred on July 15, 2026, at the Nammo Vihtavuori plant in Laukaa, in which one person suffered a fatal injury and one a minor injury. The explosion occurred in a factory building that was undergoing renovation. The explosion was triggered when a worker employed by a subcontractor at the site was cutting a pipeline and the residue substance inside the pipe exploded. The investigation will focus among others on work practices and risk management in a multiple operator workplace in a changed security environment.

Expert Knut Lehtinen is appointed as head of the investigation team, and experts Sampo Tukiainen and Mikko Virtanen as members. The investigator-in-charge is the acting Senior Investigator Hannu Hänninen until August 16, 2026, and Senior Investigator Timo Naskali as of 16 August, 2026.
