L2025-01 Aviationaccident near the Eura aerodrome

Pursuant to section 2.1 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011), the Safety Investigation Authority launches an investigation into an aviation accident that occurred on 17 May 2025. Two helicopters on their way from Tallinn to Piikajärvi aerodrome in Kokemäki experienced a mid-air collision and crashed. All persons on the helicopters were killed, and the helicopters were damaged beyond repair. The investigation will focus particularly on airmanship practices, human factors, as well as the training and experience of pilots.

Expert Kalle Brusi will be appointed as the Head of the Investigation team, and Expert Jari Hjerppe, Expert Krista Oinonen, Senior Special Investigator Juho Posio, and Ex-pert Mikko Raatikainen will be appointed as members of the team. The Investigator in Charge is Janne Kotiranta, Chief Air Safety Investigator.
