Y2024-04 Fire that broke out at a waste recycling plant in Rusko of Tampere on 5 November 2024

The Safety Investigation Authority, Finland will initiate an investigation under section 2[2] of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011) into a fire that broke out at a waste recycling plant in the city district of Rusko in Tampere on 5 November 2024.

The fire in stored waste heaps lasted for several days, emitting harmful substances in the vicinity of residential areas. The investigation will focus particularly on the factors that caused the incident, logistics of waste flows, risk management and the operations of public authorities.

Specialist Jussi Kangasmaa will be appointed as the Head of the Investigation Team, and specialists Jari Alanen, Jari Kotimäki, Otto Veijola and Julia Westerberg will be appointed as members of the team. Chief Safety Investigator Timo Naskali will serve as the Investigator-in-Charge.
