Safety Investigation Authority Finland has decided to initiate an investigation under section 2 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011) into the serious incident that occurred at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport on 21 February 2021. A Finnair Airbus A350-900 type airliner drifter out of the taxiway and collided with the taxiway sign.
The safety investigation will focus among others on the organizations’ safety and risk management methods and information flow.
The investigation team will be headed by Safety Specialist Petri Koistinen, and its appointed members are Safety Investigator Hannu Hänninen, Aircraft Mechanic Jukka Jylö, Engineer Jan Nordlund and Air Traffic Controller (retired) Tapani Simola. Chief Air Safety Investigator Janne Kotiranta will serve as the Investigator-in-Charge.
