The Safety Investigation Authority, Finland, has decided to initiate an investigation under section 2 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011) into the grounding of M/S Timca (NL).

M/S Timca (NL) was grounded, resulting in a leak, on the northern side of Rihtniemi in front of Rauma early in the morning of 16 February 2021. Despite the leak, the vessel continued under its own power to the port of Rauma, where it berthed with assistance while the rescue activities continued.

Maritime navigation expert Captain Tapani Salmenhaara, Master of Science (Technology), has been appointed as the Head of the Investigation Team, and piloting expert Captain Sami Raappana, navigation technology expert Hannu Martikainen, Bachelor of Engineering, as well as rescue expert, warrant officer, ret. (machinery) Jari Alanen and coastal shipping expert Captain Meeri Tengström have been appointed as members. Chief Safety Investigator Risto Haimila is the Investigator-in-Charge.
