The Safety Investigation Authority, Finland, has decides to initiate an investigation under section 2 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011) into the grounding of M/S Amorella.

M/S Amorella touched ground in the narrow Hjulgrund passage in the Åland archipelago in the daytime on 20 September 2020. Because of the seriousness of the leak caused by the grounding and to prevent the ship from sinking, the vessel’s master steered the vessel to the shore of the island of Järsö.

Safety Investigation Specialist, Master of Science, Maritime Administration, Ilkka Kervinen has been appointed as the head of investigation team, and Captain Bengt Malmberg, Maritime Search And Rescue Expert Matti Salokorpi, Licentiate in Philosophy Jukka Seppänen and Maritime Safety Expert Gunnar Silander have been appointed as members. Chief Safety Investigator Risto Haimila will serve as the Investigator-in-Charge.
