C17/​1996R Freight train col­lid­ing with empty freight wag­ons at Ylämylly sta­tion, on 2 No­vem­ber 1996

On Saturday, 2 November 1996, a freight train crashed into empty freight wagons on Ylämylly (near Joensuu) freight yard. In view of shunting work, the points were turned to the siding where the empty freight wagons were standing. The engine driver of the freight train had however not been advised of the stopping at the entry switch or of the arrival on the occupied siding.

In the collision, the locomotive and three wagons and some track installations were damaged. No personal injury or fatality occurred.
