On Sunday 27th July, 2001, the coastal passenger vessel TYRNI grounded when passing a narrow channel, “Kuuttosuntti”, in Pori archipelago. She was on return voyage from island Iso-Enskeri and had 49 passengers and a crew of two. As TYRNI entered the Kuuttosuntti strait, a fast small leisure craft came towards TYRNI in mid channel with high speed. The Master of TYRNI altered course a little to starboard and almost immediately touched bottom. As the Master realised that there was water coming in, he decided to carry on in to shallow water near by, close to the shoreline. The vessel sunk there, but the main part of the hull remained over the surface. The passengers were transported ashore with dinghies and from there with a bus to their destination, Pori. No one got injuries.
The vessel suffered bottom area damages in an area of 0,25 x 2,0 metres. She was repaired and got back in service within a week’s time.
