The Safety Investigation Authority, Finland has decided to initiate an investigation under section 2 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011) into the aviation accident that occurred on the Hyvinkää airfield on 27 September 2021. An experimental aircraft of the type Vans’s Aircraft RV-8 crashed during a spot landing performed during a refresher training flight. One person died in accident and another was seriously injured. The aircraft was destroyed beyond repair in the accident.

Commercial pilot Mika Kosonen is appointed as head of the investigation team and Safety Investigator Juho Posio, commercial pilot and flight instructor Kimmo Lius, and aviation medical examiner, Adjunct Professor Alpo Vuorio as its members. Chief Air Safety Investigator Janne Kotiranta will serve as the Investigator-in-Charge.
