M2018-04 Near collision between pilot boat and missile boat off Emäsalo on 1 December 2018

The Safety Investigation Authority of Finland has decided to initiate an investigation under Section 2 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011) into a near miss incident between a pilot boat and a missile boat on 1 December 2018.

The vessels ended up in a near-miss situation after following intersecting courses. A collision was avoided and the incident did not cause any personal, environmental or material damage.

Safety Investigator Ilkka Kervinen has been appointed as the Head of the Investigation Team, and Kari Ylönen (Master of Social Sciences), Jani Holmberg (Naval Officer (ret.)) and Hannu Martikainen (MSc. in Engineering (Tech.)) as members. Chief Safety Investigator Risto Haimila will serve as the Investigator-in-Charge.
