Under section 2 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011), the Safety Investigation Authority, Finland, has decided to initiate an investigation into an accident that occurred in Vaasa on 24 October 2020, in which the fireboat RRP1083 of the Ostrobothnia Rescue Department was grounded and sank on its way to an emergency medical service assignment. No personal damage or significant environmental damage was caused by the accident. The Border Guard completed the emergency medical service assignment that was interrupted by the accident.

Expert Jaakko Lehtosalo (ship technology) of the Safety Investigation Authority, is appointed as the Head of investigation team and the experts Leif Johansson (rescue services) and Jouni Kujala (emergency medical services) as well as Safety Investigator Lasse Laatta of the Safety Investigation Authority are appointed as members. Risto Haimila, Chief Marine Safety Investigator, is the Investigator-in-charge.
