M2022-01 The Grounding of the Minelayer Pyhäranta on 24 August 2022

The Safety Investigation Authority, Finland, has decided to initiate an investigation under section 2 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011) into the grounding of the minelayer Pyhäranta on the open sea west from Örö on 24 August 2022.

The minelayer Pyhäranta was grounded while lifting up a target board used for a live fire exercise. The accident did not cause any personal injuries or environmental damage. Pyhäranta was refloated on 25 August 2022.

Expert Jani Holmberg of the Safety Investigation Authority is appointed as the Head of the Investigation Team and experts Jari Alanen, Petri Koistinen and Matti Salokorpi are appointed as members. Chief Safety Investigator Risto Haimila is the Investigator-in-Charge.
