Y2023-02 Decision to initiate an investigation into the fire that led to the death of five people in Vantaa on 8 October 2023

Under section 2, subsection 2 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011), the Safety Investigation Authority, Finland, will initiate an investigation into the serious fire in Vantaa on 8 October 2023.

A fire started in a flat in Hakunila, Vantaa, early in the Sunday morning. There was a family of six in the flat, out of whom only one adult survived.

Safety Investigator Heikki Harri has been appointed as the Head of the Investigation Team, with Jouni Kujala, an expert of emergency medical services, Safety Investigator Timo Naskali, Jukka Seppänen, Lic.Phil. and Kari Ylönen, MA, as its members. Chief Safety Investigator Kai Valonen will serve as the Investigator-in-Charge.
