Y2024-03 Accidental explosion at construction site at Laakso hospital in Helsinki on 9 August 2024

Under section 2, subsection 2 of the Safety Investigation Act (525/2011), the Safety Inves-
tigation Authority, Finland, initiates an investigation into an accident in which an unexploded
ordnance, that was ignited during construction work, exploded on 9 August 2024. Two peo-
ple were injured in the accident that also caused material damage due to loose stones flying
to the surrounding environment.

Expert Taneli Rasmus has been appointed as the Head of the Investigation Team, with
experts Ilona Hatakka, Suvi Ristonmaa and Ari Kurppa as its members. Chief Safety In-
vestigator Timo Naskali serves as the Investigator-in-Charge
