On Friday, November 8, 1996, at Kontiomäki station, a freight train took the wrong track and collided with the rear of another freight train. In the collision five wagons derailed, of which two were badly damaged. No personal injury occurred.

The accident was a result of one point not having been turned by the pointsman.
